Fulton County officially has a new chief of police.

Gary Stiles was sworn in this morning. He has served as interim police chief since April, and he has been with the department for 30 years.

“We feel that he is eminently qualified,” said Fulton County Chairman John Eaves.

Stiles said he plans to work more closely with Fulton County residents.

“The entire theme behind the Fulton County Police Department is working in partnership with the community,” he said. “And you cannot do that without the community. If the police departments have to do it all by themselves, we’re going to fail.”

The county also announced it’s budgeting for 100 body cameras and 50 dashboard cameras for the police department.
