University of Georgia Football Coach Mark Richt will not coach the Bulldogs in their upcoming bowl game, according to the university. UGA officials say Richt informed the team this afternoon.
According to a press release from the school, assistant coach Bryan McClendon has been named the interim head coach and will take over the last game of the season.
“I’ve asked Bryan to assume all administrative duties of the head coach,” said UGA J. Reid Parker Director of Athletics Greg McGarity in a statement. “This will be the least disruptive option for our players and staff as they begin preparations for our bowl game.”
According to reports from the Associated Press and others, the University of Miami is expected to announce Richt as it’s new head football coach on Friday.
Richt, a native of Florida, was a quarterback for the University of Miami when he was an undergraduate. He was fired by UGA on Sunday.
