State education officials have released data showing how well Georgia’s public school students are doing. The College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) is usually issued annually as a type of “report card” that details how well schools and districts perform. Federal law requires states to have an accountability system for schools. This year, Georgia received a waiver due to the pandemic, so the data are limited.
However, the education department did determine how well students did in three areas: content mastery, readiness and graduation rates. According to the data, 63% of elementary school students, 60% of middle school students and 64.7% of high school students showed content mastery. Seventy-one-point-eight percent of elementary, 75.1% of middle school and 73.2% of high school students were ready for the next grade level. Eighty-four-point-seven percent of high school seniors graduated on time.
“Georgia will continue to remain laser-focused on academic recovery,” State Schools Superintendent Richard Woods said in a news release.“We know the pandemic had an undeniable impact on student learning — it’s our role, responsibility and privilege moving forward to ensure districts and schools have the resources they need to continue investing in students and combatting the effects of lost learning opportunities.”
