For anyone who has followed Atlanta news coverage anytime over the past half-century or so, they’re probably familiar with the work of seasoned investigative reporter Richard Belcher.

The longtime WSB-TV journalist recently decided to retire after five decades of reporting in Atlanta.

“All Things Considered” recently spoke with Belcher about that decision and asked him what he’ll miss most.

Belcher talked about how the city has evolved in his time as a journalist, including dramatic changes in the city’s racial and political makeup.

He’s covered a wide range of local issues and stories of national interest, such as the Atlanta Child Murders.

Belcher said the biggest change he’s observed in his time in the industry has been a decline in audience.

He said that since starting in TV news in the 1970s he’s seen the Atlanta media landscape peak and fall since the rise of social media.
