New grants awarded to support climate solutions in Georgia

Blair Beasley, the director of climate strategies at the Ray C. Anderson Foundation, says Drawdown Georgia is a statewide research-based initiative that focuses on climate solutions.

Five Georgia-based family foundations recently established the Drawdown Georgia Climate Solutions & Equity Grant to support and advance climate solutions and prioritize equity in The Peach State.

Five two-year grants of $100,000 per year were awarded to Truly Living Well Center for Natural Urban Agriculture, Georgia Organics, Georgia Conservation Voters Education Fund, Gwinnett Housing Corporation, and Athens Land Trust.

Each of the grantees will focus on work that’s centered around one of the following: composting, conservation agriculture, energy efficiency improvements, food waste reduction, large-scale solar, and rooftop solar.

On Thursday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Beasley along with Lejla Prljaca, the executive director of the Lawrenceville Housing Authority and CEO of the Gwinnett Housing Corporation, talked with show host Rose Scott about the current longstanding disparities as it relates to climate change and the importance of addressing climate challenge in BIPOC communities.
