Abbey Griffith, a personal trainer and the founder of Clarity Fitness Center, says when a person loses weight, they are often praised with endorsements about their appearance, but sometimes those endorsements can impact their mental health negatively.
“It’s really important that we start to see people as more than the number on the scale and see health as more than the shape and size of someone’s body,” said Griffith, on Thursday’s edition of “Closer Look.”
Griffith further explained to show host Rose Scott that eating disorders are linked to a lot of different things, including genetics, social environments and personal relationships.
During the conversation, Griffith talked about her struggle with weight loss and shared how therapy helped her to heal and inspired her to open Georgia’s first body-positive fitness center.
“We actually don’t want to focus on weight loss at all, which definitely can be a shift for people,” she said. “We want to meet them where they are.”
