Ten years in the making, the Atlanta Opera has reached a thunderous milestone achieving what its own general and artistic director Tomer Zvulun likened to climbing Mount Everest. The epic “Das Rheingold,” a chapter in Richard Wagner’s four-part ring cycle, will rattle the roof of the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center with a mythic tale of gods, heroes, dragons, and magic rings.
“Das Rheingold” is on stage from April 29 through May 7. In this interview, bass-baritone Greer Grimsley speaks with “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes about the opera.
“It connects us to our humanity; it connects us to our ancestors. And when we sing in that theater, we’re touching people with our sound waves,” Grimsley said.
