Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed says the city will deliver 10 deeds to school properties to Atlanta Public Schools.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Reed made the announcement Monday.

The school system wants to sell surplus properties, but the city holds school property deeds — a holdover from decades ago before the city and school system were legally separated.

Reed wanted the school system to abide by a policy that any developed multifamily housing on the properties would include 15 percent affordable workforce housing.

The school system has argued that the deeds are theirs to dispose of and battled with the mayor over stipulations. But the school board passed an affordable housing policy for surplus school property earlier this month.
