University System of Georgia Chancellor Sonny Perdue says Georgia has a commitment to investing in education and he’s certain that the funding recently cut from his system will be restored.

“Most people understand that higher education is the ticket to a transformative lifestyle,” said the longtime politician who now oversees 26 public colleges and universities that are part of the University System of Georgia (USG).

Recently, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp signed a tax exemption and the state budget that included a $66 million cut in funding for USG.

On Tuesday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Perdue explained how each USG school is funded and why he feels that the state funds will be returned to USG.

“The economic development successes that we’ve seen over the last several years, I think are directly related to the investment that we’ve made in skills, knowledge and talent base,” said Perdue.

During the conversation, Perdue also talked about a recent letter that he received from Lt. Gov. Burt Jones questioning DEI funding at Georgia institutions.
