Georgians for a Healthy Future on Medicaid unwinding

Georgia and other states are now issuing terminations for people who may no longer qualify for Medicaid or childrens’ health insurance.

Georgia is in the process of re-evaluating almost 3 million members for continued health insurance coverage over the next year.

Users of Medicaid or PeachCare for Kids could lose coverage as soon as June 1.

Those notified about potential termination have another 90 days to submit any requested documents, and they can appeal.

Laura Colbert is the executive director of Georgians for a Healthy Future, and organization that is helping Medicaid recipients determine their eligibility.

She said during the pandemic, the federal government barred states from cutting off Medicaid coverage in order to make sure people had health insurance.

Now that the official COVID-19 emergency has ended, states are mandated to recertify eligibility for every member around the U.S.
