Atlanta artist Krista Jones finds art essential to thriving on the other side of addiction
On the “City Lights” series “Speaking of Art,” local artists share insights into their influences, processes and experiences in town. This edition focuses on contemporary artist and muralist Krista Jones.
“I’m currently focused on a series of murals called ‘Formations,’ where I’m utilizing vibrant color, patterns and elements found in nature to sort of disrupt these urban spaces that might otherwise be sterile or overlooked,” Jones says. “I’d like to offer passersby some unexpected joy.”
Jones is vocal and transparent about being a recovered addict and says that art is vital to recovery.
“The last 8-plus years in recovery have not been easy, but what motivates me to keep creating and to keep pushing myself is the fact that I am a walking miracle, and I want to keep showing up … so that others can see that it’s possible to not only find joy but find yourself thriving on the other side of addiction,” Jones said.
