Classical music continues to live, breathe, develop and expand as new generations of performers and composers lend their voices. Assisting the evolution of classical music is the Atlanta organization “Challenge the Stats,” whose mission is to bring BIPOC musicians into the spotlight with the resources their communities have long lacked.
Challenge the Stats will give a concert in collaboration with the Atlanta Opera… the “Around Sound: Juneteenth Jubilee,” on Saturday, June 17, at First Presbyterian Church. In this interview, “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes speaks about the concert with the founder and executive director of Challenge the Stats, harpist Angelica Hairston, and the organization’s community choir director Verena Lucia Anders.
