While Atlanta has been a hub of culinary cuisine and authentic Southern recipes for decades, the city, as of this week, has officially joined The Michelin Guide, a map to the highest quality dining options for food enthusiasts throughout the city to choose from.

Atlanta is only the ninth North American destination to be included in the guide, which is notably determined by anonymous inspectors who are already making reservations and checking out the city’s diverse restaurants.

Michelin and the Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau announced in a press release that the city’s edition will arrive in the fall.

The guide, a shortlist of the top restaurants in the world, is famous for its Michelin Stars, with one to three stars awarded to restaurants offering outstanding food .

According to the company, the criteria of evaluated dining establishments are based off of five universal factors: quality products, the harmony of flavors, the mastery of cooking techniques, the voice and personality of the chef as reflected in the cuisine and consistency between each visit and throughout the menu.

“We want to recognize that Atlanta is a culinary powerhouse, with a long list of styles and flavors for foodies to enjoy. One might immediately associate the city with Southern cuisine, and rightfully so, but there is much depth here that should not go overlooked,” said Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guides in a recent press release.

These eateries will join Michelin’s choice of Atlanta’s top hotels, featuring alongside 6,000 hotels in over 130 countries.
