Wini McQueen is a contemporary textile artist and beloved figure of Macon’s art scene, well-known for redefining the traditional art of quiltmaking using modern textiles and techniques. This year, Macon, Georgia, turns 200, and McQueen’s exhibition “The Canopy” is on view through Dec. 31 at the Macon Mall for the city’s bicentennial.
“City Lights” host Lois Reitzes spoke with McQueen to talk about her work and the exhibit.
“I would like for people to walk and play underneath it and read stories and visit with their children,” McQueen said. She continued, “It will be a very large and immersive and, I hope, thought-provoking experience for people who visit.”
