In the 19th century, Haiti was the only free Black nation in the Northern Hemisphere and had only one queen in its history, Marie-Louise Christophe. She is the subject of “Queen of Exiles“, a recent novel by Vanessa Riley.
In this extensive interview, the Atlanta-based best-selling author of historical fiction joins “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes to talk about this extraordinary woman who ruled Haiti with her husband from 1811-1820.
“I hope it leaves questions of what could have happened if the world would have fully embraced the kingdom of Haiti,” Riley said.
