Atlanta is known as the Hollywood of the South, and City Lights is honored to highlight some of the many local professionals who help keep our city’s film and TV industry thriving. Today, we feature Atlanta film and TV food stylist, food historian, and food effects artist  Elizabeth Grove.

“I absolutely love having the freedom to go to my studio and develop visually stunning and show-stopping dishes and displays through research and development,” Grove says.

“For example, a prop master from Louisiana contacted me to work on a series shot here in Atlanta. She said it was ‘White House’ and a period piece.”

After the prop master gives Grove a script that shows what actors will be doing, Grove then goes to her studio, Edible FX, and creates a giant storyboard of research through pictures of that specific time, place, and person described in the script.

She must also consider the dietary restrictions of the actors. If the actor is eating eggs in the script but doesn’t eat eggs in real life, Grove must create something that looks like eggs but is not.

You can see Grove’s work at Edible FX’s “Horrifying Food of Film” art exhibition this Friday through Sunday at the Limelight Theater on Decatur Street. More information about the event is available here.
