The iconic horror story of “Frankenstein” was made into a movie starring Boris Karloff and directed by James Whale in 1931. The film had no musical soundtrack! Several decades later, composer Michael Shapiro took scoring “Frankenstein” into his own hands.

His critically acclaimed score will be performed by the Atlanta Opera Orchestra with five of the company’s singers in a one-night-only event, with the film screening at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre on October 28.

In this interview, Michael Shapiro joined “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes to talk about scoring “Frankenstein.”

“Every year there’s Halloween, every year people love to celebrate it, and this is the greatest horror movie ever made,” Shapiro said.

Composer Michael Shapiro’s new, original score to the film “Frankenstein” will be performed by the Atlanta Opera alongside the classic horror movie on October 28 at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. More information is available here.
