This week, Georgia lawmakers are in a special session to redraw the district lines for several state legislature and congressional seats.

This all comes following a court order in which Judge Steve C. Jones ruled that Georgia’s current political maps violated the federal Voting Rights Act and diluted the power of Black votes.

Lawmakers have until Dec. 8 to redraw and approve the new political maps.

On Thursday’s edition of “Closer Look,” WABE politics Rahul Bali discussed the latest. He also explained the difference between racial and political gerrymandering and how the redrawn maps could affect the balance of power in the state legislature.
