The final Election Day of the year in metro Atlanta was marked by a slew of incumbents being ousted across the area, plus Brookhaven residents picked a new mayor to succeed its term-limited one.

In the only citywide race in Atlanta on Tuesday, Alfred “Shivy” Brooks appeared to beat the incumbent Tamara Jones by nearly 30 points in the Atlanta School Board At-Large Seat 7 race. Brooks will be the first active teacher to serve on the board.

John Park outlasted Lauren Kiefer in the race to decide who will become Brookhaven’s new mayor. Park beat Kiefer by about 17 points and will succeed John Ernst, who was term-limited and therefore not eligible to run again.

Also in Brookhaven, there was a runoff to decide the District 1 seat on the city council. Linley Jones lost her re-election bid by just 5 points to Michael Diaz.

There were three East Point City Council seats up for grabs in the runoffs on Tuesday, including two incumbents fighting to retain their seats. They both lost, as Carrie Ziegler narrowly beat Josette Bailey in Ward B, and LaTonya Martin Rogers handily beat Stephanie C. Gordon in Ward D. In Ward C, Tremayne Mitchell narrowly beat Myron B. Cook.

Two more incumbents went down in city council races in South Fulton and Stonecrest. Keosha B. Bell beat incumbent Corey Reeves by 12 points for the District 5 seat in South Fulton. And Terry Fye bested incumbent Rob Turner by 50 points for the Post 2 seat in Stonecrest.

And it appears that a former city council member in Sugar Hill came back to beat a current member in a nailbiter of a runoff for the Post 3 seat. Meg Avery will likely take over for incumbent Jenn Thatcher, with less than 20 votes separating the two.

In other races across the metro area, Carrie Armistead outlasted MD Naser to win the Doraville City Council District 2, Post 2 race.

Neat Robinson retained her District 2 seat on the Henry County Commission. Khoa Vong also kept her Post 4 seat on the Morrow City Council, beating Oscar Lanza Menjivar by 12 points.

In Peachtree City, Laura Plauche Johnson beat Tamara Allen Moore in a landslide for the Post 1 seat on the city council. In Roswell, Allen Sells beat Michael Dal Cerro by 7 points for the Post 2 seat on the city council. And in Snellville, Norman Carter outlasted Catherine Hardrick for the Post 1 seat on the city council.

All of the results of these races are unofficial until certified at a later date in each city and county.
