Among Atlanta’s public schools, the B.E.S.T. Academy is unique in several ways: it serves an all-male student group, all of whom are minorities and all of whom come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

Now, the school can add another reason it’s special — a brand new music studio, thanks to the Academy’s collaboration with 100 Black Men of Atlanta and the Music Education Group.

In this interview, B.E.S.T. Academy student Aiden Goforth, Music Education Group founder Ric Ross, and Ray Singer, director of programs at 100 Black Men of Atlanta, speak with host “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes to tell us more about what the new studio can offer this unique student body.

“Atlanta is definitely the hub of music and film, and I just thought it was time for us to put a program together that would teach these young people how to use the hardware, Protools, Logic and all of the software,” Ross said.
