From the Civil Rights Movement to voting issues to women’s rights, college students have often been on the frontlines, advocating for issues that matter to them.

It’s no different for the current class of students.

Dr. Helene Gayle, the president of Spelman College, Dr. Leocadia Zak, the president of Agnes Scott College, and Dr. Kathryn McClymond, the president of Oglethorpe University, are all charged with leading some of Atlanta’s academic institutions.

They encouraged students to use their voices — but also to think strategically about how to create the changes they want to see.

On Monday’s edition of “Closer Look,” the college presidents participated in a roundtable discussion with show host Rose Scott. They talked about several student-related activism topics, including the specific role young women play in the 21st-century civil and women’s rights movement.
