Snow started falling Tuesday night in the Atlanta area, where many school districts already have announced early dismissal times and cancellations ahead of the wintry weather.
A steady snowfall was coming down on the normally bustling Interstate 75 corridor leading from Atlanta through its northwest suburbs and beyond. About 15 miles northwest of the city, the snow was forcing cars on the interstate to slow considerably amid scattered fender benders.
Atlanta-area schools began announcing closures Tuesday night. They include:

The University of Georgia announced it will delay opening the Athens campus until noon.
Cobb County announced a delay for “normal government operations” until 10 a.m. Wednesday. City of Atlanta has opened another warming center in the face of bitterly cold temperatures.
