Dubbed Donna’s Law, a proposed measure would allow for a voluntary do-not-sell firearms list that anyone with suicidal ideations can opt-in to to protect themselves.
Three other states — Utah, Washington and Virginia — have passed similar legislation.
Chelsea Piatt is with the Georgia Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and joined “All Things Considered” to discuss how this law could save lives.
She said the law is named for Donna Nathan, who suffered from bipolar disorder for 30 years and voluntarily admitted herself to psychiatric treatment facilities to protect herself.
