In the history of jazz violin, few names elicit such reverence as that of Stephane Grappelli, the French fiddler who won over the world’s hearts through his work with gypsy jazz legend Django Reinhardt.
Less well known are Grapelli’s albums in collaboration with jazz piano master Oscar Peterson. That’s the repertoire that captured the imagination of contemporary acclaimed jazz violinist Jason Anick. His new record is “Reverence: A Tribute to Stephane Grappelli and Oscar Peterson,” and it’s a collection of songs by the famous duo, as well as his own.
In this interview, Anick joins “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes to talk about the new album. He’s also performing with the Rhythm Future Quartet at Steve’s Live Music on March 21, and the quartet plays the following night on March 22 at Waller’s Coffee House in Decatur.
