Protests against the Biden administration’s handling of the Israel-Hamas war flared up at two Atlanta schools this week.
On Thursday, protestors at Emory University set up an encampment that mirrored similar demonstrations at higher education institutions across the country, including Columbia University and the University of Texas-Austin.
WABE’s Chamian Cruz joined “Closer Look” live from Emory’s campus with the latest on the encampment, where police used tear gas, pepper spray and tasers on protesters.
Meanwhile, Morehouse College is preparing to welcome President Biden as the HBCU’s commencement speaker on May 19, though the announcement has already drawn criticism from students and staff.
“We understand that the decision to platform Biden was made solely by the Morehouse administration and that students and faculty members were not consulted,” states a letter shared by the Georgia chapter of Faculty and Staff for Justice in Palestine. “This is not the Morehouse College that history has known and that we have come to treasure.”
