Moving in the Spirit co-founder on her 38-year history with the Atlanta youth dance company
In a landmark upcoming performance from Moving in the Spirit, Atlanta’s youth dance organization, dancers will become “bold tempera, choreographed with brushes of powerful history to create a stunning human canvas,” according to the event website.
Poetry and dance will join forces to tell the inspiring story of Harlem Renaissance painter Jacob Lawrence in the final presentation of Moving in the Spirit co-founder and artistic director Dana Lupton, who co-created this farewell performance with poet Alice Lovelace. “Journey on the A-Train: A Jacob Lawrence Story” will be on stage at the Rialto Center for the Arts on May 8.
Lupton and Lovelace joined “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes to discuss the upcoming performance.
“We’re excited and proud of this next generation of leaders who are carrying the legacy forward for another 38 years and beyond,” said Lupton. She continued, “We just want folks to leave championing the creativity that their children have when they see them on that stage.”
