2019 Dates Announced For PGA Tour Championship In Atlanta
A major tournament at Atlanta’s East Lake Golf Club is moving to an earlier date.
PGA Tour officials are willing to make players and spectators brave hotter temperatures to try to capitalize on a lull in pro-sports activity.
East Lake Golf Club has hosted the Tour Championship for more than a decade typically in mid-September.
Starting next year, the tournament will move to mid-August as part of a total overhaul of the professional golf season schedule.
PGA Tour officials say its to avoid competing with college and professional football for viewers. Those seasons typically kick off around the same time the pro golf season wraps up.
“By concluding at the end of August, [we’ll] no longer have the challenge of sharing the stage with college and professional football,” said said PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan.
Dates for this year’s Tour Championship won’t change.
The PGA Tour will crown its champions this September, hoping, at least for one more year, that sports fans can pull their eyes away from the gridiron to pay attention to the greens.
