A joyful new life for recycled plastics has begun at The Grove in Colony Square, Midtown. Multimedia and found-object artist Hyland Mather’s eye-catching public art installation, “Nice Time,” was created in partnership with the plastics and packaging company ALPLA and their sustainability initiative, “Plastics Reimagined.”
“City Lights” host Lois Reitzes spoke with Mather about his passion for repurposing what he calls “lost objects” and the story behind “Nice Time.”
Mather, who also goes under the moniker ‘The Lost Object,’ works with found materials in all of his artwork. “I assembled the junk into kind of a makeshift wall, and I really loved it, and it was appreciated by my peers, and from there, I was like, oh hey, maybe this is something,” said Mather.
