According to LifeLine Animal Project, the DeKalb County Animal Services shelter took in 1,005 animals in July, including 451 lost dogs. Additionally, LifeLine’s Fulton County operations took in 917 animals during the same period, marking the second-highest monthly intake in over 11 years.

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger announced Tuesday that independents Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Cornel West and Claudia De la Cruz of the Party for Socialism and Liberation collected more than the 7,500 signatures required to appear on the presidential ballot for Georgia.
Nevertheless, Georgia Democrats are still legally challenging third-party candidates’ petitions to appear on the ballot.

Twelve Georgians participated in the Paris Olympics, competing in sports ranging from shooting to basketball to weightlifting. Some athletes, like Gabby Thomas, brought home multiple medals. Thomas won gold in the individual women’s 200-meter event, as well as in the 4×100-meter and 4×400-meter relays.
Other notable athletes from Georgia include Minnesota Timberwolves player Anthony Edwards, who won gold with the U.S. basketball team, gymnast Brody Malone, who helped the U.S. men’s gymnastics team win its first medal since 2008, and Jane Campbell and Emily Sonnett, who won gold with the U.S. women’s soccer team.

The eighth annual Atlanta Black Restaurant Week is underway, and more than 100 of Atlanta’s restaurants are participating. The two-weeklong celebration of cuisine from the African diaspora offers events designed to attract hungry customers to minority-owned food businesses.
Founder and Morehouse College graduate Warren Luckett said the number of participating businesses is increasing.
“Atlanta’s just been the melting pot of Black culture, really, for the last 50 years,” said Luckett.
