SCLC president prepares to step down to focus on developing affordable housing
Dr. Charles Steele Jr., the president and CEO of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), is stepping down — but not retiring.
Steele, 78, who has served the civil rights organization for nearly 20 years, was a guest on Friday’s edition of “Closer Look.”
He told show host Rose Scott that there’s still work to be done and that he’s going to devote his next career chapter to developing affordable housing for low-income families.
Steele also talked about the current state of civil rights, the upcoming presidential election and his hopes for SCLC and its future president.
