Write Club Atlanta is 'brain boxing' at its finest
“The world’s greatest combative philanthropic literary bloodsport” comes to Dad’s Garage on Sept. 4, hosted by Nicholas Tecosky, Mykal Alder June, Dani Herd and former Dad’s Garage artistic director Jon Carr. Carr, a retired veteran of Dad’s Garage productions, rejoins the team to bring maximum chaos and fun.
“High octane brain boxing at its finest” is the rowdy rubric of Write Club Atlanta, a competitive assembly of writers and storytellers that throw down at their live events, pitting writers against one another in three bouts of intense and premeditated argument. At the end of the carnage, audiences choose their champion and bless them with a “loving cup of deathless glory.”
Started in 2010 at the Hideout in Chicago, the literary bloodsport found its way to Atlanta only a year later, and has been rip-roaring through ATL’s writing scene ever since.
Tecosky recently sat down with Lois Reitzes on “City Lights” to discuss the event, suggesting that audiences come prepared to get rowdy.
“We suggest that they grab a drink to loosen up, to get their voices ready to scream,” he says, pointing to the high energy that keeps the writers on their toes and audience members electrified.
