During his time as governor of Georgia and president of the United States, Jimmy Carter promoted music as a way to break down barriers. As he nears his 100th birthday, a glorious celebration with music seems the most fitting way to honor the Jimmy Carter centennial.
Hosted by The Carter Center and presented by Delta Airlines, “Jimmy Carter 100: A Celebration In Song” will bring together an eclectic medley of musical and cultural icons to celebrate 100 years of President Carter.
Jimmy Carter’s grandson, Jason Carter, recently joined City Lights with Lois Reitzes to discuss the upcoming celebration.
“We put a group together that we thought was going to be broad and interesting and eclectic and really represented that idea that music can bring people together,” says Jason Carter.
The lineup will feature artists Chuck Leavell, Drive-By Truckers, Eric Church, GROUPLOVE and many more alongside the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chamber Chorus. Celebrity guests Dale Murphy, Killer Mike and Sean Penn will also be in attendance to celebrate President Carter’s centennial.
