The deadline for registering to vote in the Nov. 5 general election in Georgia is Oct. 7.
To check your voter registration status, go to the Georgia Secretary of State’s My Voter page.
What are the requirements to vote?
You need to be a U.S. citizen, a legal resident of Georgia, at least 18 by Election Day, not currently serving a felony sentence and not ruled mentally incompetent by a court. You need a valid driver’s license or an ID issued by the Georgia Department of Driver Services to register to vote online.
If I have not voted in a while, am I still registered to vote?
If you’ve registered to vote in the past but haven’t voted in the past election, you should still be registered to vote. However, you should doublecheck the Georgia Secretary of State’s My Voter page. You could be inactive if you haven’t had any contact with elections officials for five years.
Your registration will be canceled if you continue to not have contact with elections officials the next two general elections. To become active, you can vote, update your address, sign a petition, request an absentee ballot or check your status online.
