The old adage “behind every great man is a great woman” states it more diplomatically than the title of the hit comedy play “POTUS: Or, Behind Every Great Dumbass are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive,” which wrapped a triumphant Broadway run in 2022.

Now, Atlanta’s Synchronicity Theatre is staging this irreverent political farce from Oct. 4 to 27 and invites Atlantans across the political spectrum to “come laugh and let go.”

Director Rachel May joined “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes to discuss the upcoming show.

“The play centers around the women who support and surround the president of the United States,” says May.

“This is an unnamed president, which is one of the pieces of brilliance of the play. And it is a bad day in the White House, there’s a lot going on. Mostly because POTUS has not been behaving himself in all the ways that he should be and his wife, his chief of staff, his press secretary, his presidential secretary and a variety of other folks need to try to right the ship.”

As they do, things go from bad to worse -— and comedy ensues.
