Art collection of Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys presented at The High Museum
A giant’s banquet of extraordinary art is on view at the High Museum in the exhibition “Giants: Art from the Dean Collection of Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys.”
The collectors, husband and wife musicians Alicia Keys and Kasseem Dean, a.k.a. Swizz Beatz, are presenting works from their private collection for the first time in a major gallery institution.
The works represent a span of legends from 20th Century Black diaspora to present-day art pioneers across media, including paintings, installation and photography.
The exhibition is organized by Kimberli Gant, curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Brooklyn Museum and curator of the “Giants” collection. She joined “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes to discuss the Deans’ remarkable treasure trove, which is on display through Jan. 19, 2025.
“You’re definitely going to see a lot of massively sized sculpture, painting and installations, and that’s something that’s also very specific in their collecting ethos,” said Gant about the exhibit. “It’s a way I think for them to support artists in creating even beyond what they thought was possible, allowing these kind of visions even beyond what I think most artists have the belief that they can do.”
