On Monday, the Georgia Supreme Court reinstated the state’s abortion ban a week after a Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney struck down the law, ruling it unconstitutional. McBurney’s decision briefly allowed physicians to perform abortions up to around 20 weeks of pregnancy, or before fetal viability.
Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr is appealing McBurney’s decision.

Residents are participating in a pilot program that is testing out a municipal service that would pick up compost. Avondale Estates residents have been putting their compost out on the curb with their trash and recycling, and the local company CompostNow picks it up.
The trucks take the compost to a facility in East Point, where it gets sorted for contamination. Then, the compost is transported to a central facility in Douglas County.

Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency partnered with the Red Cross to establish 10 shelters across the state for people evacuating Florida.
Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp also declared a state of emergency for several counties that could have seen effects of Milton.
Coastal Georgia was under a tropical storm warning Wednesday until it was lifted Thursday afternoon, according to the National Hurricane Center.
