Voters in the battleground state of Georgia have now cast more than 1 million ballots in the 2024 general election as of Friday, according to the secretary of state’s office.

As of 1:32 p.m., the state has accepted and counted more than 1 million early in-person votes and more than 50,000 absentee ballots.

On Tuesday, voters broke the record set in 2020 for the most number of ballots cast during the first day of early in-person voting in Georgia after more than 300,000 voters turned up to the polls.

Overall, more women than men have cast ballots, with the former leading by around 100,000 votes or 10 percentage points, according to the secretary of state’s Election Data Hub.

Those between the ages of 65 and 69 have cast the most ballots at more than 150,000 votes. Residents between 70 to 74 and 60 to 64 follow closely.

Counties in the metro Atlanta region are leading in total number of votes, with Fulton County in the lead, followed by Cobb, DeKalb and Gwinnett. However, in terms of turnout percentages, those counties fall toward the bottom, with Towns County in northern Georgia leading with a 26.9% turnout rate.

In addition to presidential, state and local races, Georgia voters will decide on a number of state ballot measures. Cobb, DeKalb and Gwinnett residents will vote on county-specific measures as well.

Early in-person voting lasts until Nov. 1, and metro Atlanta residents can visit any number of designated locations within their county to cast a ballot.
