Dr. Benjamin E. Mays’ impact extends beyond the campus of Morehouse, the city of Atlanta and the state of Georgia, Brianna Carr says.

Carr, who serves as the senior producer of WABE Studios, and her team were tasked with telling a chapter of Mays’ story, specifically when he served as the sixth president of Morehouse College for 27 years. His chapter at the historically black, private, liberal arts, all-men’s college is now the focus of the new digital documentary, “We Expect Nothing Less: The Benjamin E. Mays Story.”

The short film, produced in partnership with HBCU Week Now, follows the journey of incoming Morehouse College freshmen as they learn about Dr. Mays’ influence on civic leadership and the Morehouse mystique concept. Carr was a guest on Thursday’s edition of “Closer Look.” She talked with show host Rose Scott about Mays’ influence and her team’s process in creating the film.

This film was produced in partnership with HBCU Week Now and made possible through a public media partnership led by Maryland Public Television with support from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
