Gladys Knight Chosen To Sing National Anthem At Atlanta’s Super Bowl

“Empress of Soul” and Atlanta-born Gladys Knight will take center stage at Super Bowl LIII on Feb. 3.

The seven-time Grammy Award winner will be singing the national anthem ahead of the football game’s kickoff inside of Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, according to an NFL statement released Thursday morning.

“I am proud to use my voice to unite and represent our country in my hometown of Atlanta,” Knight said in the news release, “the NFL recently announced their new social justice platform Inspire Change, and I am honored to be a part of its inaugural year.”



Knight’s career has spanned decades, from being a member of the Motown quartet Gladys Knight & The Pips to her solo career.

The soul singer is known for Billboard Hot 100 chart-toppers, such as “Midnight Train to Georgia” and “That’s What Friends Are For.”
