The Pink Pig oinks again! The legendary Atlanta attraction returns to the holidays
After a five year absence, a longtime Atlanta holiday staple returns to the city for oinks of fun and memories.
On Nov. 23, the Pink Pig will open to a new generation of children as part of the Georgia Festival of Trees at the Gas South Arena. The train ride has been a landmark tradition throughout decades from many Atlanta natives.
The beloved holiday ride originated as Priscilla the Pink Pig in 1953 at the now-defunct Rich’s Department Store at 45 Broad Street, the current location of downtown Atlanta eateries and Georgia State University properties. The most recent version of the ride prior to next week’s opening was previously seen at Lenox Square, which first appeared at the mall in 2003 and closed operation in 2021.
The latest version will now introduce Priscilla’s grandchildren, Penelope “Penny” and Porter.
“We are thrilled to bring back this beloved tradition for a new generation of riders in Georgia!” said Angie Ulibarri, executive director of the Georgia Festival of Trees. “The Pink Pig tradition is cherished by many people so bringing this tradition back to the community — and to a new generation — is a true honor.”
Unlike the original model, Penelope “Penny” and Porter are rail-less with each spacious cart “hold[ing] multiple people, including adults, so families can enjoy the experience together!” added Ulibarri.
Tickets will be charged at $5 and fees. The attraction will be available at the Georgia Tree Festival until Dec 1.
