With temperatures in metro Atlanta expected to drop significantly after the Thanksgiving holiday, local governments are providing several options for residents without homes or heat.
DeKalb County plans to open cold weather shelters at four different sites from the south side of DeKalb up to Chamblee starting Thursday at 8 p.m. The county works with homeless service provider Frontline Response International to coordinate transportation and meals are available at the provider’s main location. In Atlanta, the city is expected to open warming centers at the Central Park and Adamsville Recreation centers beginning Friday. Updates will be available on the city’s social media page.
Gwinnett County also provides warming centers whenever temperatures dip below 35 degrees. The county has locations in Buford, Duluth, Lawrenceville, Norcross and Snellville. The status of those locations is available on the county’s website.
According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, overnight lows could dip into the 20s.
