Edgewood Heavy is an Atlanta-based band, a four-piece rock and soul band that features two guitarists and vocalists named Gio Yaquinto and Gold Griffith. The band considers itself to be an outgrowth of legendary Atlanta indie spot Smith’s Olde Bar, which picked them up at the tail end of the pandemic and gave them a regular residency on Fridays.
Edgewood Heavy draws heavily from a variety of sources for inspiration. Still, according to singer and guitar player Yaquinto, they draw their largest inspiration from the creative exchanges between band members.
Yaquinto and fellow guitarist/vocalist Gold Griffith come from extremely different musical backgrounds, but meet in the middle with a flow of shared content. “We’re constantly showing each other new music and putting each other on new artists or new sounds,” says Yaquinto, noting that their sound is a synthesis of all the music they enjoy.
The band adores Atlanta as a hub for their creativity because of the variety of music represented in the scene here. “If you want to see rock, if you want to see rap, if you want to see electronic music, if you want to see soul, there’s a place for you,” in Atlanta, explains Yaquinto.
