Forty years ago in July, the Atlanta Child Murders began dominating the headlines.

Countless children, mainly boys were either missing or dead and the mad search was on for a suspect. Newsweek Magazine was noted for its extensive coverage during that two year period.

Vern E. Smith was Newsweek’s Bureau Chief in Atlanta. He joined Lisa Rayam on “Morning Edition” to talk about the case.
