Georgia Senator Johnny Isakson announced Wednesday he’ll be resigning at the end of 2019, citing health concerns. Among the first names mentioned as possible successors, has been that of Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr.

Carr is quick to brush that idea aside, saying he is “singularly and solely focused on helping Johnny get through these next three months and really again focused on his legacy because I owe him so much.”

But Carr had much to say about Isakson, his style of politics and his legacy in Georgia and in the Senate.

Carr entered politics as a volunteer for Isakson’s first, unsuccessful Senate run in 1996. He ended up as Isakson’s chief of staff, before leaving to become Commissioner of Economic Development in the Nathan Deal administration in 2013. “So pretty much for 23 years, my professional and political and personal life has revolved around Senator Johnny Isakson,” Carr said.
