Trump Rally In Downtown Atlanta Draws Hundreds Of Protesters
Hundreds of demonstrators gathered to protest President Donald Trump’s rally in downtown Atlanta Friday afternoon.

President Donald Trump, who got 8% of the black vote in 2016, came to Atlanta on Friday in an attempt to rally support from that demographic for his 2020 re-election effort.
Outside the Georgia World Congress Center, hundreds of protesters carried signs and chanted “impeach and remove.” They marched down Marietta Street and past the building where Trump was holding a rally, chanting, “Whose streets? Our streets.”
Nina Watts attended the protest.
“I would like for him to know how I feel. I believe the people should have a voice. And when they have the opportunity, they should use it,” Watts said.
The Trump administration claims it has done more for African Americans than any recent president, citing record low unemployment numbers and policies that have led to decreased incarceration rates.
But Elias Reddick said Trump’s effort to reach black voters is only tied to him seeking a second term in office.
“You know, he [does] what everyone else [does]. It’s time for election again; then he showed up. Where was he before?” Reddick said.
Earlier in the day, the Trump campaign held a joint fundraiser with Georgia Sen. David Perdue. Perdue is a staunch Trump supporter and is a frequent critic of Democratic-led impeachment efforts.
Dorothy Stanton was at the protest and carried a sign reading, “David Perdue, do your job.”
“I want him to work for the people, not for Trump. Work for the people who put him in there, not for Trump,” Stanton said.
The protests were peaceful. A few Trump supporters waded through the crowd at times, taunting the protestors. But police were on hand to diffuse tensions.
