Iranian-American, Atlanta Councilman Amir Farokhi Calls For Diplomacy

“I didn’t run for local office to engage in Middle East politics. Yet, as one of a handful of Iranian-American elected officials in this country, I feel is important to speak up at this time of escalating tensions between our nation and Iran.”

That’s how Atlanta City Council District 2 representative Amir Farokhi began a statement issued Monday criticizing President Donald Trump’s actions in Iran, as well as to Trump’s threats to engage in what the councilman calls a “war crime.”

On Tuesday’s “All Things Considered,” Farokhi spoke with WABE’s Jim Burress about what Farokhi calls his duty to raise his voice against the escalating tension in the Middle East at the hands of the president.
