Surrounded by family on Sunday morning, Grant Lewis called his brother, longtime Georgia U.S. Rep. John Lewis, “a fighter with a tenacious spirit” who was also “gracious and kind.”
Funeral plans are still in the works for Lewis who died Friday at the age of 80 after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
Grant Lewis, 67, recalled that even routine trips to the store with his well-known brother would end up taking hours.
“Because he would shake every hand, take pictures with everybody that wanted to take pictures, because that’s the kind of person my brother was,” said Lewis.
Lewis expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support for his older brother, who represented Georgia’s 5th congressional district for more than three decades after being first elected in 1986.
