John Fithian, CEO, of NATO told WABE he wants to ensure patrons that specific health and safety protocols are in place now that theaters have re-opened in 46 states.
Fithian says theaters are collectively using safety measures based on Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, World Health Organization, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration guidelines.
Their system, Fithian added, was developed over several months in consultation with leading epidemiologists. So far, more than 300 companies, comprising more than 2,600 locations and more than 30,000 screens across Georgia and the U.S. have signed on including AMC and Regal theater chains.
Moviegoers, Fithian says can expect “to have the same entertaining and enjoyable experience at their local theater and rest assured that exhibitors are doing all that they can to provide a safe and healthy environment.
“CinemaSafe theaters will each honor the safety protocols. Guests will be greeted by staff upon entry to ensure that everyone is wearing a mask. Upon booking your ticket, a seat will automatically be left open in between your group and the next, and markers will be placed in common areas to help guide social distancing. Your favorite concessions will still be available for purchase, though a more condensed menu will be offered in order to accelerate transactions. ”
When asked what is the future of the movie industry as the pandemic continues, Fithian replied, ” Over the years, this industry has survived world wars, recessions and technological innovations. Going to see a movie is still the most affordable form of entertainment and we know it will continue to be a staple activity for families across the nation. Since our theaters have begun reopening, customers have shown great enthusiasm to return and have truly missed the movies.
“Last year, 2019 proved to be the most successful year ever for the film industry and an incredible lineup of great films lies ahead of us for the rest of 2020 and into 2021. As long as local and state officials agree that we are providing a safe and healthy experience, we will continue to give our audiences an exceptional theatrical experience so they can enjoy a movie with their loved ones.”
