Metro Atlanta is under a flash flood watch throughout today into the evening hours.

North and Central Georgia are getting heavy rain and winds from Sally, which made landfall as a Category 2 hurricane.

Sally has since been downgraded to a tropical depression.

Nick Morgan with the National Weather Service in Peachtree City says, “As you progress a little further north going up towards the metro Atlanta area you seeing around 1-to-2 inches and then it kind of gets lighter as we move up into North Georgia. So it’s definitely been a heavy rain maker for us”.

Sally blew ashore near Gulf Shores, Alabama, on Wednesday morning with 105 mph winds. It moved slowly, exacerbating the heavy rains’ effects.

More than 2 feet fell near Naval Air Station Pensacola, and nearly 3 feet of water covered streets in downtown Pensacola, the National Weather Service reported.
