After being closed for several months, a 75-year-old Atlanta restaurant staple known for its made-from-scratch dishes, fresh vegetables and fried chicken is now back open and under new ownership.

On Tuesday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Harold Martin Jr., one of the new owners of Mary Mac’s Tea Room, said the restaurant re-opened for dine-in, online ordering, and curbside pick-up just ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday with safety measures and protocols in place to keep both staff and customers safe.

During the discussion, Martin told with show host Rose Scott that he’s incredibly proud to be a co-owner of the restaurant that was designated as “Atlanta’s Dining Room” by the Georgia House of Representatives and that every decision he and his team makes is rooted in the long-term success of the restaurant and its employees.

“We are obviously in a very unique season; every decision we make is about the next 75 years, not the next seven months, Martin explained.”

During the interview, Martin reflected on the tea room’s legacy, shared what customers can expect moving forward and discussed why he and his team decided to change the restaurant’s mac and cheese recipe.
